Pertamina Patra Niaga Semi-Documentary – Empowering Sembalun Coffee Farmers
As part of Olahkarsa Group, Solutive collaborated with Pertamina Patra Niaga to produce an inspiring semi-documentary about Sembalun coffee farmers, highlighting stories of struggle and community empowerment.
Problem
In Sembalun Bumbung, East Lombok, around 49.98% of the local population only reaches elementary school education. Limited access to education has led to a lack of skills, even though the region holds tremendous potential in coffee production.
Sembalun coffee is known for its quality, but without proper knowledge and modern technology, its true value has yet to be maximized by local farmers. This gap between potential and capability highlights the urgent need for a solution that is not only practical but also capable of unlocking opportunities and building new hope for the community.
Objective
Pertamina Patra Niaga sought to do more than showcase coffee as a commodity. The main goal was to present an authentic and emotional story that reflects the daily struggles of the community, while underlining the company’s commitment to supporting local empowerment.
The semi-documentary was designed to:
- Capture the real challenges faced by the people of Sembalun, from limited education to economic constraints.
- Highlight the solutions brought by the Sandik Coffee Planting Culture and the use of modern coffee processing equipment.
- Emphasize coffee not just as a product, but as a path toward better livelihoods and sustainable progress.
Action
The Pertamina Patra Niaga campaign focused on delivering an authentic and emotionally resonant story, realized through the collaboration between Olahkarsa Group and Solutive. Together, they produced a semi-documentary video that brought audiences closer to the real lives of coffee farmers in Sembalun.
This approach was chosen to ensure the story went beyond numbers and reports, allowing viewers to truly experience the community’s journey from limitation to opportunity.
In this collaboration, Olahkarsa explored field insights and developed a storyline rooted in social reality, while Solutive, as part of Olahkarsa Group, translated that narrative into a visual piece filled with emotion and meaning.
Key steps included:
- Portraying the education and economic challenges faced by the community to build understanding and empathy.
- Showcasing how the Sandik Coffee Planting Culture and modern equipment introduced new skills and opportunities for local farmers.
- Using semi-documentary visuals that capture genuine emotions, from the faces of farmers to the atmosphere of the coffee plantations.
- Crafting the story with a natural flow, balancing factual information with human-centered narratives that keep the audience engaged.
This approach turned the video into more than just documentation. It became an impactful video content piece that not only informed but also inspired. For Solutive, it demonstrated the value of creating stories that bring communities closer to audiences and make empowerment efforts truly resonate.
Results
The “Green House Kopi” semi-documentary achieved strong results, both in visibility and in building trust with stakeholders.
Some of the key outcomes included:
- Public exposure: screened on the Ministry of Environment’s digital channel, generating more than 200 positive comments.
- Media attention: covered by local media and reposted by various coffee community accounts in Lombok, expanding the message’s reach.
- Stakeholder support: reused internally by Pertamina as a TJSL presentation material for local government stakeholders, strengthening trust and credibility.
These results show how a semi-documentary can serve as an effective medium for communication. Through this project, Pertamina Patra Niaga’s collaboration with Solutive and Olahkarsa became a strong example of how authentic storytelling, powerful visuals, and meaningful messages can create impactful content while strengthening connections between communities, businesses, and the public.
