Pertamina EP Semi-Documentary Video on Mokusaku as a Safer Alternative to Para Vinegar
As part of Olahkarsa Group, Solutive collaborated with Pertamina EP to produce the Mokusaku semi-documentary, turning wood biomass waste into a safer solution for rubber farmers in Prabumulih.
Problem
In rubber farming, para vinegar has been widely used because it is cheap and easy to find. But behind that convenience, it carries serious safety risks. The chemical is dangerous and has caused many workplace accidents.
Pertamina EP saw this as a major issue. Frequent accidents from para vinegar not only harmed workers but also reduced productivity and limited community well-being. A safer option was needed to protect people and support the rubber industry.
Objective
Through the Pakar Balam Program, Pertamina EP introduced Mokusaku, a biomass made from processed wood waste using a distillation technique. This innovation works as a safer replacement for para vinegar while maintaining its effectiveness in rubber production.
The goal was not only to offer a technical solution but also to communicate it in a way that was simple and clear for local farmers. The main message was that workplace safety must always come first. With an educational video production, the message could be delivered emotionally so it would stay longer in the minds of the audience.
Action
In this campaign, Solutive, as part of Olahkarsa Group, was entrusted to produce a semi-documentary video with a simple yet powerful approach. The story went beyond data, presenting a narrative drawn from everyday life so that the message of safety could be easily understood and deeply felt by the audience.
Throughout the creative process, the Solutive team emphasized a balance between emotion and education, ensuring that the core message remained clear and focused.
Here’s how the storytelling was shaped:
- Showing a real accident case caused by para vinegar, making the risks clear and relatable.
- Building a story that moves from the problem, to hope, and finally to the solution with Mokusaku.
- Keeping the focus on one main message so the audience stays engaged.
- Using visuals that are simple yet powerful, clearly showing the difference between old risks and the safer alternative.
With this approach, the video became more than documentation. It turned into a safety campaign video that informed, educated, and inspired workers to adopt safer practices.
Results
The “Mokusaku” video gave real results. The safety message was delivered in a clear and memorable way, helping people understand the risks of para vinegar and the safer choice with Mokusaku.
The results included:
- Viewers remembered the message because the story was told in a simple and emotional way.
- Viewers watched the video longer, with many staying until the end.
- Pertamina EP used the video again as part of its internal workplace safety campaign in Prabumulih.
This proves that semi-documentary educational videos built with strong storytelling can create long-term impact. Beyond information, the video strengthened safety awareness and encouraged a safer work culture within the community.
